University of Ljubljana (SI)

Partner in the SUPERCOMET project

The transnational partner in Slovenia has assisted in the initial testing and pedagogical evaluation of the software tool. They are also developing the new and updated version of the software in cooperation with Simplicatus, in addition to developing the teacher seminar.
As a training institution for teacher students, with qualified personnel related to the field of superconductivity and soft matter physics, it is an ideal partner for this project. In the final phase of the project, the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana will assist in testing and evaluating the educational material, especially the accompanying teacher seminar.

The evolution of the present Faculty of Education of Ljubljana began with the founding of the College of Education on July 4th 1947. In 1964 the Ljubljana Academy of Education was established on the foundations laid by the College of Education. In 1972, the Academy of Education became a member of the University of Ljubljana.

With the adoption of the law on the Academy of Education, four-year university-level studies commenced for the remaining programmes in 1987-88. In May 1991, when the first class of students graduated from the four-year programme, the Academy of Education was renamed the Faculty of Education.

Programmes in the sciences are taught in conjunction with the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Biotechnology of Ljubljana. The transformation of the former College of Education, by way of the Academy of Education, into a faculty came as a consequence of social circumstances, in which the education of teachers gradually assumed an ever greater importance, with the result that teacher-training programmes were increasingly expanded and improved. One of the factors conditioning this change was a shift in the conception of the teaching profession from one picturing the teacher with minimal authority, to one viewing the educator as autonomous and as a professional.
